Charging the Battery

Battery Charging Instructions:

The Piper Computer Kit's power source is a 5V USB Li-ion battery.  It's important to always shut down the Piper Computer Kit before disconnecting the battery, powering it off or running out of charge.  If the Raspberry Pi loses power while operating, it may corrupt the SD card. If you think your SD card has corrupted, please contact us at [e-mail]. 

Step 1:  When to Charge the Battery

You'll know it's time to charge the battery when just one of the battery's four LED's is illuminated. Otherwise, feel free to charge the battery at any power level to ensure the longest uninterrupted play time. We recommend you charge the battery between uses!

Step 2:  Shut down the Piper Computer Kit

To shut down the Piper Computer Kit, find the power button in the software and click on it.  Choose the "Shut Down" option on screen and wait until the screen completely turns off. 

Step 3: Unplug the Battery and Swap Micro USB End of the Cable

Once powered down, unplug the two USB cables from the battery and set the battery aside. Unplug the micro USB cable from the Raspberry Pi. Plug the Micro USB end of that cable into the Micro USB port on the side of the Battery.

Step 4: Plug Battery into Outlet

Find a USB wall adapter from a smartphone or similar device (the wall adapter is not included). Plug the USB end of the cable into the USB wall adapter and plug into an outlet.  You can also charge the battery through a laptop or desktop computer’s USB port, but this may take considerably longer to charge.  

Step 5: Reconnect Battery to Piper Computer Kit

When fully charged, all four LED's of the battery will illuminate. Once charged, swap the micro USB end of the cable from the battery and reconnect it to the Raspberry Pi.  Reconnect the two USB cables to the battery, power on and play!
